JUNE 18, 2007

Lunchtime

We always knew we wanted to start Summer in Holborn with a bang – and we want you to do the banging! Come along and join in our interactive drum jam which will have the rhythm sticks hitting the beat. If that sounds too energetic why not try your hand at our interactive graffiti session where you can practice your artistic skills without ruining the environment.

Evening
Get on your dancing shoes and strut your stuff with our teams of instructors. After a hard day back at work here’s a chance to relive the weekend and dance your cares away. Our instructors will be ready with a range of styles from salsa to street dance and by the end of the evening you’ll be well on your way to becoming the new Fred or Ginger.

The Holborn Partnership works to reduce congestion in Holborn and encourages sustainable forms of transport such as cycling and walking. This week we are also celebrating Bike Week 2007 and Green Transport Week.

Lunchtime

Come and relax and be pampered by a range of local businesses offering five minute massages, mini makeovers, and feel-good fashion tips. Or why not try our introduction to Tai Chi session, walking you through some basic moves to relax and tone your mind body and soul. We’ll have some laid back music playing in the background to help you find your inner calm.

Evening
We’ve lined up an evening to really tickle your fancy tonight – with an element of audience participation thrown in for good measure. We have some brave souls from local businesses who have signed up for our open mike slots. Your host for the evening is top comedienne Jo Caulfield who will be a familiar face to many from her work as warm up artist for Graham Norton.

THP aims to establish links between local commercial occupiers and Holborn based charitable and community organisations, as well as to provide a central point for requests for assistance or offers of help. Today is the anniversary of the eight hour working day so we are promoting work/life balance through laughter!

JUNE 20, 2007

Lunchtime

Come and enjoy a bite to eat and listen to some great music courtesy of Mike Hobart's Urban Jazz Quartet playing a mixture of originals and standards. Or why not enjoy a fascinating tour of The Foundling Hospital? Today's walk visits this important site, including free admission to the Foundling Museum, and hears about the work of the nearby Coram Family organisation. Meet at 1.00pm prompt at the junction of Lamb's Conduit Street and Guilford Street. This walk will last about 45 minutes and is free of charge.

Evening
Join us for an evening of laid back, chilled out music from some of our best up and coming local musicians. Performing tonight will be Claire Warburton, a member of the London Community Gospel Choir who will be singing soul and jazz classics with her band. A great chance to enjoy a sing-along in the park!

The Holborn Partnership cooperates with Better Climate for Camden in order give local organisations free one-to-one advice to reduce their environmental impact. This is followed up with ongoing support whenever they need it. Today is World Refugee Day, a chance to reflect on climate change, which could create a world full of ‘climate refugees’ and force more than 1 billion people from their homes before 2050.

JUNE 21, 2007

Lunchtime

It’s midsummer’s day and in the spirit of rebirth and renewal we’re organising an epic eco art challenge to bring the creative spirits to life. Under the watchful eye of eco art expert Max McMurdo, teams from local businesses will be vying to create an original piece of art from discarded office supplies. Background music will be provided by Kyla Owen and Anna Golebiowski on flute and guitar.

Evening
It’s the moment of truth tonight as the winner of our eco art challenge is announced. Come and celebrate with the winners and commiserate with the losers – either way there will be some new art to appreciate. Then it’s on to the musical highlight of the week, with artists from the Overtones project based in Holborn.

The Holborn Partnership focuses on building relationships. We organise many seminars, social gatherings and networking events in order to enable local occupiers to get to know each other, promote their services and thereby strengthen the Holborn economy. Today we will celebrate the summer solstice day – the longest day in the year. Let’s make it an evening to remember!

JUNE 22, 2007

Lunchtime only

Today you have an opportunity to meet the Rangers. The Street Ranger operations began in 2001 as an ambassadorial service to the area whose primary function was to provide a highly visible presence, meeting and greeting visitors to the area, providing directions and information and generally promoting safety and deterring crime.

You also have an opportunity to participate in the Knights Templar Historical Tour provided by one of the Holborn Street Rangers, Aly Mir. This ancient order was formed in Holborn before moving to the New Temple Church (as featured in The Da Vinci Code). Visit both sites on this tour. This walk is free and starts at 1pm from the orange Holborn Street Ranger Kiosk, which is directly outside Holborn Tube Station. Or come along to the square and enjoy some great music from the Concordia string quartet.

The Holborn Partnership assists with the delivery of a safer Holborn. We employ the Street Rangers and develop initiatives such as continuity planning training seminars and the Holborn Crimewatch email loop with the aim of reducing the impact of crime in Holborn.
